Cascade Female Factory – Southern March Function

The Cascade Female Factory World Heritage Site is right on Hobart’s doorstep.

WITT member’s enjoyed a lovely evening and the Female Factory Facebook page reported:

The Cascades Female Factory demonstrates how transportation was used to expand Britain’s spheres of influence, as well as to punish and reform female convicts.

On 6 March, 25 WITT members enjoyed a visit to the site and learn what was happening on site.

Members took the opportunity to participate in 3 activities – an overview of what is going on and planned at the site. This was hosted by Julie Henderson who is employed by the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority as Site Manager of the Cascades Female Factory Historic Site.

The Female Factory’s Matron provided a short snippet of her life and times from her cottage.

Judith and Chris Cornish enthralled members with a small piece from ‘Her Story’, a depiction of the harsh life experienced within Yard One of the Cascades Female Factory in 1833.

Visit the Cascade Female Factory Facebook page for photos of the evening.
